Context and challenges
A Directus project lives in several environments. Without a tool, its configuration is copied by hand from one to the other, with gaps and omissions. Directus-Sync treats it as code: it is extracted into files, versioned in Git, compared and applied to another instance. It works with an extension installed on the Directus instance, described in its documentation.
What we did
Three commands
pull retrieves the configuration of an instance, diff compares it with the files of the repository, push applies it to another instance.
All the configuration tracked
Dashboards, flows, folders, operations, panels, permissions, policies, presets, roles, settings and translations.
Targeted synchronization
Each collection can be included or excluded: you synchronize exactly what you want to move.
Dependencies handled
Stable synchronization identifiers link the items from one instance to the other, and dependencies, circular ones included, are handled automatically.
Seed data and hooks
The tool also manages seed data, and hooks let you adapt each step of the synchronization.
Open and tested code
The code is published under the GPL-3.0 license, with online documentation and automated end-to-end and unit tests.
